ENROLLMENT

The dance year is September through mid-June.  ADSD does not accept students on a trial basis.  A student that drops out in the middle of the year leaves a vacancy that will not be easy to fill and they will NOT get credit for that year of dance study.  Please speak to the Director ahead of time if class participation or scheduling is not working out for your child.  New student registration will end in October.  You must receive Director permission to begin lessons in the middle of the year. 

 

PLACEMENT

Placement of a student is left entirely up to the Director.  Technique, age, and ability guarantees progress of the student.  Progress increases self-confidence.  Practice at home is encouraged.

Classes Offered

BALLET

The foundation for all forms of dance and is recommended for ALL students.  Emphasis is on musicality, kinesthetic awareness, poise, posture, alighnment,and strengthening of core, legs, feet, and back.

 

POINTE

This class is for advanced ballet students who are prepared for class "en pointe" in

toe shoes.  Levels are beginner to advanced.  A pivotal moment in a dancer's training career. 

LYRICAL / CONTEMPORARY

A mixture of ballet and jazz that focuses on the use of expression through contract and release, parallelism, improvisation, assymmetric/symmetric figures, and spirals.

 

 

 

TAP / HEEL TAP / RHYTHM TAP

There are several types depending on level of ability.  This develops rhythm, timing, coordination, and endurance.  Recommended for ALL students.

JAZZ

It is based on the 1920's jazz movement and expands to today's modern, pop-culture style.  Emphasis is placed on isolations, style, technique, music, and attitude.  Hip-Hop will be offered throughout the year.

POM TEAM / ACROBATIC ARTS
This is a walk-on competition team.  Flexibility, strength training, cheer prep, balance, and stunt work. Students will compete a Pom routine in the Spring.

Flexibility training, stretching, contorsion, and tumbling.
